Stained Glass Saw

A stained glass saw is used only for the cutting of stained glass, and care must be taken that it is used in the right way on the right materials.  If this is not the case, it can be damaged, and the object that is being worked on can also be damaged.  Avoiding this is easy, however, by understanding what a stained glass saw is, what it is used for, and general information about it.  Many people are of the misguided impression that a stained glass saw is always used to make cuts in stained glass, but in reality this is not the case.  A saw of this type is too slow to use for every cut.  Generally, stained glass is scored and broken with a stained glass cutter, which is much faster.  However, there are times when a stained glass saw is a better choice, depending on what specifically needs to be done.  The Stained Glass Saw, therefore, is only another tool that a person working with stained glass can use.  There are times when it will make a project easier and much more convenient, but it cannot do everything.  A person that buys a stained glass saw thinking that his or her problems have all been solved will find that this is not the case. 

This type of saw is not even really a necessity for those that work with stained glass.  However, there are many times in various projects where a saw of this kind will come in very handy.  Those that are serious about stained glass work, especially if they deal with a lot of intricate work, will likely want to invest in a stained glass saw.  For working with pieces that have intricate and/or deep inside curves, though, this type of saw is ideal.  It is able to get into areas where it is difficult to score and break the stained glass, and because of this it is seen as a good tool.  Glass that is ‘crunchy’ or thick is also a good place to use a stained glass saw, because these types of glass tend to be very difficult to break.  Because of this, they benefit from having a saw to use instead.  Another area where this kind of saw is helpful is the last cut for a particular project.  Sometimes, those that work with stained glass are nervous and uncomfortable scoring and breaking that last crucial piece for a project because of the danger involved should it break in the wrong spot.

When there is danger involved and the whole project can be damaged by an unlucky break, it is nice to have a stained glass saw to use.  By doing that, the last piece can be cut and there is no chance of it breaking wrong and damaging something that someone might have been working on for a long period of time.  Stained glass can be expensive, as well, and it is important to ensure that a good project does not get destroyed because of something that could have easily been avoided.  Stained glass saws are relatively expensive, costing several hundred dollars.  However, the savings that might be seen in the cost of damaged or broken stained glass for projects can quickly make the saw worth the cost.  For the part-time hobbyist that spends very little, the stained glass saw might not be that practical.  However, for the person that is serious about working with stained glass, and that plans to continue it as a hobby or as a business for some time, the investment of a stained glass saw would be a wise one.  With many models and options to choose from, one can be found that can easily meet anyone’s needs.
